Next tuesday we are going to visit the church of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi. Originally a convent, with medieval origins, Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi became very important during the Renaissance, Botticelli Perugino and Ghirlandaio worked here; today is a church of the order of the Augustinians of the Assumption, with a nice portico and a cloister. It is just 10 minutes walk from the school, and you will learn all the details of this place rich in art and in history with the visit, guided by our teacher Benedetta.
This is a special place for Scuola Toscana, because the brothers of the congregation here have hosted many events of us.
We were there in may 2014, for the 25th birthday of Scuola Toscana Event, when we organised an evening in support of UNHCR, together with the local offices of Amnesty International and Ican (more than 100 persons, students, teachers, friends, even directors of rival schools attended…)
We were there last september, for the event against the nuclear weapons with one of the last survivors to Hiroshima, Mrs. Tanaka Tomiko. Unforgettable.
We were there for many “Lecturae Dantis” in support of various other activities we sponsored, like the Italian production of the video “Sulle ali di una farfalla” against nuclear war.
Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi is not in the main circuit of Florence art visits, therefore we are always very happy when we can show the place to new people, as we feel at home here.
